ATI broadened its business model in 2001 when it began to sell its graphics chips to third party add-in-card companies in addition to selling graphics cards under its RADEON brand. The new model has so far proven successful for ATI.

“We are very pleased that ASUS has chosen ATI graphics for its new products,” said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President of Marketing and General Manager, Desktop, ATI Technologies Inc. “ASUS is a major player in the market and we think that OEMs, system integrators and retail customers will readily adopt ASUS boards that are powered by ATI graphics.”

ATI today introduced the RADEON(tm) 9800 XT and RADEON(tm) 9600 XT visual processors. Featuring advanced support for Microsoft’s DirectX® 9 specification, both of these visual processors are ideal graphics platforms for games like Half-Life 2; this year’s most highly anticipated game from Valve.

“Over the past year ATI had delivered lots of fantastic VPUs and customers keep asking us to provide ATI-based graphics solutions” said Jonathan Tsang, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, ASUSTeK Computer Inc. “We have evaluated the graphics technology market and realized that partnering with ATI will allow us to significantly broaden our customer reach.”
