Vivaldi 8.0 introduces a completely new Unified design, that transforms every element of the browser into one cohesive whole. To accompany the new design, six thoughtfully designed layouts are introduced as launchpads for new users to experience the true power of Vivaldi.
While the rest of the browser industry has spent recent years racing to force artificial intelligence between people and the web, Vivaldi has taken a different path, adding tools that give users more power to explore the web, and decide for themselves. One big, crazy strategy: putting the users first.
“More than thirteen years in, and I am still as excited about building this browser as I was on day one. We have spent over a decade proving that we can out-think and outshine the tech oligarchy. Not because we have more resources. Because we are building it for the right reasons. Vivaldi 8.0 embodies that belief, louder than ever.” – Jon von Tetzchner, CEO and co-founder.
A new visual era
Unified is not a visual refresh. It is a rethinking of how the Vivaldi interface works as a system. Previously, the browser’s core elements (tabs, toolbars, panels, and content), existed as distinct, separated layers. With Unified, those boundaries are removed. All toolbars now live on a single continuous surface that wraps the entire browser, creating an interface that is more cohesive, more readable, and more intentional than any version of Vivaldi before it.
The impact is profound. With a single unified surface, themes now flow across the entire window without interruption. Backgrounds extend from the Tab Bar through panels and edges. Wallpapers feel less like decoration and more like part of the environment. A dark theme is dark, properly, all the way through. A warm theme carries that warmth into every corner.
To celebrate the new design, we have added a new collection of default themes that show what Unified makes possible. From Norwegian heritage to quiet minimalism, there is a starting point for every taste. And if none of them are quite right, you can build your own, or browse more than 7,000 community themes at themes.vivaldi.net. There is no wrong answer. There is only yours.
For users who prefer the previous Vivaldi look, it remains fully available as a setting. This is Vivaldi: nothing is ever taken away.
“With 8.0, we have done something we have been working toward for a long time: we have given the browser itself a visual system worthy of everything it can do. With this update Vivaldi feels like one considered, coherent tool.” – Jon von Tetzchner
Six ways in – billions of ways to configure
Alongside the new design, Vivaldi 8.0 introduces six preset layouts, available from onboarding and from Settings at any time. Each layout is a complete, considered starting configuration, designed to show off everything Vivaldi can do. From a clean minimal setup to edge-to-edge content with a fully hidden UI, every user, from first-timers to power users, can find their footing immediately. Each layout is a launchpad, not a limit. With all the powerful features and tools in Vivaldi, users have everything they need to make the web work exactly the way they want it to.
The browser that adapts to you
Vivaldi 8.0 is built on a foundation that no other browser can match. Years of listening, building, and refining have produced a browser with the most advanced tab management available, a complete suite of built-in productivity tools, and a level of customisation that puts every other browser to shame. Navigation by gesture, by keyboard, by command: however you think, the browser follows. Your mail, your calendar, your feeds, your notes, all inside the browser, all on your terms. Vivaldi 8.0 is, quite simply, the browser you have been longing for.
