Mobile entertainment visionary joins ATI

MUNICH, GERMANY / MARKHAM, Canada – October 19, 2006 – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT) today announced that veteran mobile entertainment executive Jani Karlsson has been appointed as the new Director of Strategic Planning for its Handheld business division, effective immediately.

Mr. Karlsson brings a wealth of business and technical experience to his new role at ATI, having served in a similar executive capacity with Nokia as Head of Technology and Strategy for its multimedia division. While at Nokia, Mr. Karlsson spearheaded a number of industry initiatives including founding the Nokia Games Summit and acting as a member of the advisory board for GDC Mobile, the premiere industry event for mobile entertainment professionals. Prior to joining Nokia, Mr. Karlsson also held key executive positions at several handheld entertainment pioneers including Mforma and Riot-E.

In his new role, Mr. Karlsson will be responsible for strategic planning of ATI’s Handheld business unit, including identifying new markets for ATI products, driving the necessary features into ATI’s product plans and developing a successful ecosystem of industry groups, partners, carriers and customers for deploying its multimedia chips for mobile devices.
