On Saturday, October 22 at 20.30 the Amphitheater of Pompeii will host the first European concert-event powered by 5G millimeter wave giving attendees a unique and unprecedented immersive experience, bringing together interactions between the musical performance, the scenography, and the magical atmosphere of the venue powered by advanced digital technology. The performers for this exceptional performance include Max Gazzè, who with his band will perform a tribute to Pink Floyd to pay tribute to the film-concert shot in Pompeii in 1971. TIM in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies Inc., will also make advanced Extended Reality techniques and innovative digital solutions based on 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) technology available to the public.

The result of this mix of music, lights, and special images, will be a concert-event that in the magical atmosphere of the amphitheater will project the past into the future thanks to modern technology, creating a combination of real and virtual and thus enriching the show with new forms and content.

The initiative was illustrated today during a press conference at the Auditorium of the Pompeii excavations in the presence of Gabriel Zuchtriegel, Director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Claudio Pellegrini, Head of Sales Local Government, Health & Education of TIM and Max Gazzè.

The concert-event by Max Gazzè, of which TIM is the sole sponsor and technological partner, is part of the ‘Pompeii Echoes’ series, produced by Magister Art and created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film-concert ‘Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii’ directed by Adrian Maben, which saw the historic English band perform in 1971 at the Amphitheater of Pompeii in a memorable concert behind closed doors.

With this initiative, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii and the TIM Group – by virtue of a public-private partnership agreement – intend to propose innovative ways of enhancing cultural heritage, through new models of use that experiment with immersive applications. These will be able to offer viewers more engaging cultural experiences and live entertainment, with virtual and augmented reality services through the potential of 5G mmWave.

Max Gazzè will be accompanied by an exceptional band composed of Greta Zuccoli, Ilaria Graziano, Cristiano Micalizzi, Daniele Fiaschi, Federico Ciancabilla, Duilio Galioto, Max Dedo and special guests.

The event will be available to attend in-person with mandatory reservation on the www.ticketone.it platform, and will also be streamed for free on ITsART, the digital platform promoted by the MiC, dedicated to Italian art and culture.
The concert will reconstruct a dreamlike journey on the notes of the 14 songs reinterpreted by Max Gazzè: at the same time 14 virtual spaces in augmented reality, based on the most iconic symbols and architectures of Pompeii, will become an active part of the scenography and will frame the stage, displaying an unprecedented dimension of the historical and cultural context of the Amphitheater.

Thanks to TIM technology, the spectators present will be able to listen to the music enriched with 3D content in augmented reality simply by framing the stage with their smartphone, enjoying digital content in augmented reality that is otherwise not visible to the naked eye. In addition, from a dedicated area and through 5G mmWave technology attendees will also be able to enjoy the show with even better performance and quality.

This experience will be enabled by Millimeter-wave 5G which thanks to low latency and high bandwidth capacity, allows you to create unique immersive experiences even during events with a high concentration of participants.

Even those who will watch the concert from home in live streaming from the ITsART platform will have an immersive experience as a camera with specific sensors for augmented reality will allow at home streamers to view both digital content and real elements from the ground.

‘Pompeii Echoes’ is a format conceived and developed by Magister Art under the patronage of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, which was created to communicate and enhance in an unprecedented and contemporary way the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Pink Floyd film-concert at the Amphitheater of Pompeii, started last year with the live and digital show event 50th Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii and the docu-film RELIVING AT POMPEII. This concert will close the celebrations. A scalable and declined format that sees the development, production, artistic direction of Magister Art and the curatorship of Ernesto Assante,

Statement Gabriel Zuchtriegel, Director of the Park “Pompeii closes with this event the series of initiatives that have been dedicated throughout the year to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the closed-door concert of Pink Floyd at the Amphitheater. It was an opportunity to remember that the places of Pompeii live in all times, through the contemporary and various forms of art, including music.

But above all, it is allowing us to experiment with different modes of use, technological and immersive in order to amplify the cultural experience and reach a varied audience.”

Statement Claudio Pellegrini, Head of Sales Local Government, Health & Education at TIM “This event represents another great milestone for TIM and allows us to strengthen our leadership in new generation solutions for Smart Cities, providing citizens with immersive experiences at cultural and live entertainment events.

We are the first on the national and European market to design and implement a concert open to the public in which millimeter wave 5G is the enabler for unique and immersive experiences. The strength of TIM’s connections will transform the Amphitheater of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii into a unique place where shape, evocative images and colors will integrate with music to make spectators live an unforgettable experience.

Our commitment is to put the Group’s skills at the service of enhancing the immense Italian cultural and artistic heritage through digital technologies. We increasingly want to consolidate our presence in the sector and become the reference operator to accompany public and private organizations in this direction.”

Fabio Iaione, Senior Director, Business Development, Qualcomm Europe Inc., says:
“The Pompeii Echos concert will be an extraordinary showcase to demonstrate the capabilities of 5G mmWave and attendees will be able to experience an event like never before that will add a new dimension to the experience of going to the concert. It is an exciting project and we are proud to be part of it, we can’t wait to see the results.”

The event is free upon reservation required on the website www.ticketone.it
