‘Aggelos 2’ Announced by PQube and PixelHeart

PQube is happy to officially announce Aggelos 2, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 2D action-platformer Aggelos.

The continued partnership with long-time co-publisher PixelHeart and developed by the talented Wonderboy Bobi, Aggelos 2 builds on everything fans loved about the original while delivering a bold evolution of its retro roots.

Aggelos 2, will be arriving in 2026 digitally on PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One and physically on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Swapping its original 8-bit style for beautifully detailed 16-bit pixel art, Aggelos 2 introduces a new dual-realm mechanic that lets players flip the hero’s powers of Light and Darkness in real time and the two realms via portals.

These innovative features lie at the heart of both exploration and combat, creating a layered, dynamic Metroidvania experience where timing, precision and quick thinking are key.

This evolution to 16-bit is exactly the right approach to this sequel. “We’ve always had a real soft spot for Aggelos and the response from fans over the years has shown us we’re not alone.” says Dave Pain, CEO of PQube and he follows on to add “It’s been brilliant to work with PixelHeart again to revisit this world and build something even more ambitious “Aggelos 2 is not just a sequel — it’s a true evolution that still stays true to what made the original so loved.”

For collectors and fans of boxed editions, physical pre-orders will be available at major retailers for Switch and PS5 soon.

The Story and Gameplay

You are an Aggelos — the highest rank among the angels — as the gods face imminent defeat at the hands of the Army of Darkness, you are sent on an epic journey by Balro through Lumen, the domain of the supreme god of light.

With Lumen under siege, you must battle through the chaos in both the Light and Dark worlds layered over one another. Both filled with challenging enemies, twisting paths, and thought-provoking puzzles. Shifting between realms is key to your survival and progress.

The two worlds react to the form you take. In Angel mode, you move slower and more precisely, absorbing light projectiles, unlocking light-based switches and playing defensively. Demon mode is fast and aggressive, letting you blast through shadow barriers and strike harder with dark powers.

Combat is dynamic and tactical — switching between Celestial and Infernal forms at the right moment is essential to survival. Face off against hordes of enemies and 13 powerful bosses, where every encounter demands precision and timing.

As you ascend into the heavens or descend into the abyss, you’ll collect powerful Orbs to purchase new skills such as dashing, wall-jumping, flight and devastating special attacks. These powers with the help of magical potions will help you fight harder and explore deeper, channelling the forces of Order and Chaos.
