Today, Fairphone – the European frontrunner in modular and sustainable electronics launches its new model – The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) now available with Murena’s /e/OS marking the latest achievement in the mission to make technology fairer, more modular, repairable and long-lasting while prioritising user privacy and experience.
Designed around a „Plus“ philosophy, The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) builds on what already works. Rather than forcing consumers into unnecessary, minor redesigns, Fairphone has brought more of what people already value to maximise device lifespan and fight back against long-term economic pressures.
New upgrades to The Fairphone (Gen. 6+):
- The first Fairphone to feature 12GB of RAM, powered by the new Snapdragon® 7s Gen 4 mobile platform.
- Built with 12 easily replaceable parts and backed by an industry-leading five-year warranty and software updates at least through 2033 and possibly longer with /e/OS, The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) gives users the freedom to fix and hold on to their own tech, for years to come.
- Bold new look: Debuting in a new Cobalt Blue colorway alongside the successful Forest Green and Horizon Black colors, the new Cobalt Blue highlights Fairphone’s investment and commitment to fairer mining practices.
While Android is the default operating system for Fairphone, Murena’s version runs on /e/OS – a fully open-source operating system that prioritises user privacy, and offers users complete transparency while prioritising an interface that is easy to use (no technical expertise required).
While Google’s operating system has tracking embedded in its source code and native apps that are constantly ‘pinging information to Google – with ambiguity surrounding how that data is used and where it ends up – Murena’s /e/OS source code is fully open (therefore anyone can vet it) and does not collect user data in this way as Murena’s business model does not rely on advertising or selling data to brokers.
/e/OS also has a widget called Advanced Privacy which gives users enhanced control over the data collected by installed, third-party apps on their device, as well as a ‘Wall of Shame’ over which installed apps are leaking the most personal information, so users can make informed choices over what they install.
/e/OS recently rolled out a significant V4 software update in June 2026 which included:
- Introduction of Murena Backup, a new cloud-based backup and recovery solution fully integrated with Murena Workspace accounts.
- One-click migration, making transitioning away from Google easier than ever
- Murena Meet conference calling app with note-taking capabilities in-app
- Murena Sign for privacy-first electronic document signing
- Murena Passwords – a secure password manager
“Together, Murena and Fairphone are offering the everyday consumer something they haven’t had in the smartphone market in the past – freedom of choice,” says Gaël Duval, founder and CEO of Murena, “with devices like Fairphone (Gen. 6+) with /e/OS, users can have a truly ethical device both in terms of hardware and software. When I developed Mandriva Linux back in the 90s, it was my mission to make the operating system usable for the everyday, non-techie user. This is my goal with Murena – to give the average user access to smartphones that do not hold their privacy to ransom.”
The new Cobalt Blue finish is a deliberate nod to Fairphone’s supply chain milestones, directly tying the phone’s look to their increased investment in fair-mined cobalt. Fairphone pays the people who are the backbone of the production process fairly. Fairphone’s final assembly factory and three key suppliers participate in the Living Wage Bonus program, through which over $1.25m has been paid out since 2019, thereby covering the gap between minimum wage and a fair living wage that allows workers to meet their family’s needs, from healthcare to schooling and savings.
Sold on Murena’s website, the new Fairphone (Gen. 6+) with Murena’s /e/OS is EU: €699, UK: £599, USA $699. The device with /e/OS is from now on available on sale in Europe and on back-order in the USA at murena.com
