Taipei, Taiwan, Jan 21, 2011 – ALi Corporation, a leading Set-Top Box (STB) system-on-chip (SoC) solution provider, today announced the M3383 and M3603 conditional access(CA)-enabled STB chipsets, have successfully completed Conax chipset pairing advanced security with level 4 certification. This level 4 certification meets most of the industry security demands. These two STB chipsets, supporting Conax chipset pairing technology, are ideal for manufacturers and operators to eliminate content leakage, control word sharing, set-top box hijacking and other unauthorized behavior.

ALi’s Conax-certified M3383/M3603 are specifically designed to address entry-level digital video broadcasting market requiring standard definition MPEG2/H.264 video decoding. In addition, these chipsets aim to aid business offerings in India, Asia, Latin America and other emerging regions. Rapid economic growth in these regions leads to increasing demand for pay-TV content. This demand provides excellent business opportunities for operators, but, at the same time, it exposes the operators under considerable threats as the unauthorized content usage boosts. To minimize the impact and protect valuable content, operators need to enhance the security level of STBs. STB chipsets with advanced security engines such as the M3383/M3603 enable STB manufacturers to provide advanced security product and lower operator’s Total Cost of Ownership.

“Operators in emerging regions are beginning to realize the importance of protecting their assets against piracy behaviors. Meanwhile, STB manufacturers are facing the challenges of designing products with the highest level of security for content distribution while maintaining overall bill of material (BOM) costs. Now with Conax-certified advanced security feature, the fully integrated M3383 and M3603 enable STB manufacturers to reduce the number of components required and significantly shorten time to market. These two chipsets also provide operators with the best security available against the illegal usage of content.” said Tony Chang, vice president of the International Business Unit at ALi Corporation.

“Conax is pleased that ALi’s security-enabled Ali M3383 STB chipset has achieved certification of Conax’ rigorous security requirements. Providing high level security devices in today’s price-sensitive market is an advantage for the entire TV industry, says Geir Bjørndal, EVP Strategy & Innovation, Conax. Additionally, this solution enables operators to upgrade quality of service and ensure subscribers’ rights and interests.” Another chipset of the same product family, the M3603 for High Definition (HD), will also be available with advanced security feature in the near future, according to Ali Corporation.

ALi’s M3383/M3603 SoCs feature dual 32-bit RISC CPUs, dual USB 2.0 HOST, SATA and 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, which are ideal for developing standard definition/ FULL HD 1080p STBs. Other major functional blocks include a DDRII SDRAM/flash memory controller, SPDIF, 5.1 channel digital audio interface to support Dolby® Digital, Dolby® Digital Plus, HE-AAC, etc., and dedicated display engine for STB playback. An embedded TV encoder, audio DAC, HDMI transmitter, accelerator for MPEG-1/2/4, H.264 and JPEG decoding and demodulators allow these SoCs to offer flexible total solutions for satellite, terrestrial, cable and IPTVs.

The Conax-certified M3383/M3603 solutions are in mass production and have both received initial orders from STB manufacturers. Both STB SoCs will be showcased at the CSTB’2011 in Moscow, Russia from Feb 1 to 3rd, 2011, at ALi’s booth in Hall 3, Booth #494.
