Samsung has developed a full suite of core mobile solutions that will play a pivotal role in ushering in the „New Mobile Wave“. Mobile devices unveiled by Samsung at the Forum included 2 external memory card variations (one chip-sized card and the other incorporating OneNANDTM), a DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast for Handheld) broadcast receiver chip solution, and a multimedia mobile application processor with enforced security features.

Importantly, Samsung demonstrated the first 32 Gigabyte (GB) Flash-based SSD (solid state drive). 2006 marks the first time for NAND flash to be commercially adapted for mobile computing applications.

In addition, Samsung has developed a broader scope of integrated technologies through innovation in its other divisions. Samsung SDI, a sister company, introduced new lithium-ion batteries for such various mobile applications as DMB phones, slim phones, digital still cameras and MP3 players. In addition, it displayed the world’s highest-capacity (2,600mAh) lithium-ion batteries for laptops. Samsung’s LCD Business introduced a single-chip, triple-gate technology for higher cost efficiencies.

Dr. Chang-Gyu Hwang, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics‘ Semiconductor Business, kicked-off the conference and exhibition by saying, „A ‚New Mobile Wave‘ is beginning to stir globally. We see multiple IT functions converging more rapidly into a single mobile device and simultaneously advancements of key features in standalone gadgets. Either way, Samsung’s cutting-edge semiconductor technology is playing a major role in driving this accelerated ‚New Mobile Wave‘.“

Dr. Hwang added, „We would like the world’s leading-edge corporate customers as well as millions of young people who enthusiastically embrace new mobile lifestyles to recognize Samsung as the most reliable and innovative of mobile allies.“
„In the ‚New Mobile Wave‘, mobile solution providers must fully understand what consumers want by developing close customer relationships, as well as anticipate and plan for future customer demands. With Samsung’s broad portfolio of total mobile solutions and vast investment in R&D and manufacturing, Samsung is the only company today with the product and resources to make this happen,“ Hwang added.

President Hwang went on to underscore the „Samsung-only solution“ for mobile applications: „We plan to expand the number of mobile solutions unique to Samsung. We are engaged in innovative activities within every market segment to ensure customers will be satisfied with product quality and delivery times. I can promise that we will become a mobile ally that truly can be relied upon.“

More than a thousand IT industry executives and engineers gathered at the one-day event, at which Dr. Hwang’s lead presentation was, followed by keynotes on the state of and trends in the memory, system LSI and TFT LCD industries.
Also at the Forum, Samsung held a series of meetings covering seven strategic product segments including: displays, memory, mobile application processors, camera solutions and display driver IC solutions. During these meetings, industry engineers were given greater insight into the core-product trends that are enabling and driving the mobile IT industry.

Local Taiwanese designers High Tech Computer (HTC), MiTAC, Lite On, and Tom Tom participated in several product demonstrations (PDAs, smart phones, navigation systems) that featured Samsung mobile solutions.
