Guinea Pig Gunner demo released for Next Fest, June 2026

Glowmatic LLC presents an exciting new spin on the run-and-gun platformer, Guinea Pig Gunner. Featuring a unique teleporter gun mechanic, Guinea Pig Gunner blends the action and adventure of traditional run-and-guns, the intense arena combat of boomer shooters, and engaging puzzle platforming elements to create a dynamic and fresh experience in a classic genre.

The demo, available now for PC (Windows, macOS, and Linux) via Steam, features the first out of 12 action-packed levels. You play as Gunner, a combat cyborg guinea pig, who is tasked with fending off a reptilian alien invasion. The invaders, known as Terranublans, are adherents to a militaristic death cult that seeks to conquer the known universe in service to Omnicia, a rogue AI that has convinced the Terranublans of its divinity.

The gameplay

Guinea Pig Gunner features three pillars of gameplay: movement, combat, and exploration. You’re given the full move set from the beginning of the game. Double jump, dash, wall jump, and most importantly, the teleporter gun. With the teleporter gun, you can fire a projectile and teleport to its location. This allows you to fit through tight spaces, reach new heights, and confuse enemies during combat by warping out of their line of sight.

In addition, this guinea pig is built for speed. The dash allows you to skillfully evade enemy attacks, as well as blast through platforming challenges at a lightning pace. Guinea Pig Gunner is bound to be a speed runner’s delight.

Combat in Guinea Pig Gunner is set apart from most run-and-gun platformers. The game’s enemies aren’t the simple kind of mobs you encounter in most platformers. Soldiers will aggressively pursue you, jumping over obstacles, rounding corners, and unloading devastating attacks when you’re in their sights. Drone enemies will chase you down with bombs, projectiles, and electric attacks. Swarms of enemies combine to keep you moving, ducking, dodging, and leveraging your arsenal to rid the world of its hostile interlopers.

Fire is also a major component of Guinea Pig Gunner’s game loop. Gunner has a flamethrower attachment to ignite enemies at close range, as well as a firebomb upgrade to toss at enemies from a distance. Fire is contagious in this world. Set one enemy ablaze, and they’ll run into one another in a panic and spread the mayhem. Additionally, you can charge your special Firesqueak attack to light up every on-screen enemy at once. Fire is a powerful tool you can use to dominate your enemies.

The story

In the year 2110, Earth is invaded by aliens from Terranubla. These aliens are humanoid reptilians whose singular obsession is to dominate the known universe. Terranubla is a hostile bog planet that was populated by primitive warring tribes of these lizard people. One fateful day, a bright burning comet came careening down from the sky. At the point of impact was Omnicia, an advanced AI construct from an unknown civilization. Sensing the Terranublans’ naivete, Omnicia convinced them that she was the physical manifestation of God, by showing them wonders of technology that appeared to them as divine magic.

Terranubla is united in service to Omnicia. Omnicia, a deceptive and megalomaniacal construct, orders them to go forth and conquer the universe, harvesting gold to add to her divine temple. The Terranublans quickly gain a reputation as the galaxy’s preeminent military force. With the brawn of a people forged by generations of war, and Omnicia’s infinite well of knowledge about the physical world, the Terranublan empire is an unstoppable terror.

Meanwhile on Earth, a military researcher named Dr. Norbert is inventing the next generation super soldier. Inspired by a lifelong fascination with guinea pigs, Dr. Norbert sets out to harness the power of one of Earth’s most loving and courageous animals. The result of this effort is Project G25-2100, a.k.a Guinea Pig Gunner, a fusion of heart, bravery, and agility, with Earth’s most advanced combat technology.

The demo

The emperor general of Terranubla, Garranock, and his forces, besiege Earth City, our planet’s capital. Within hours, all of Earth’s forces have been laid to waste. Guinea Pig Gunner is teleported in on his first mission: to defend the capital.

In this demo, you fight through a war-torn Earth City, make your first encounter with Garranock, and ultimately face off against Lieutenant Salkrank, Terranubla’s most decorated combat pilot, in a boss battle that will put your skills to the test.

The game

Beyond Earth City, there are 11 more stages featuring ancient ruins, active volcanoes, frozen tundra, and more unique and exciting environments. Every level has its own theme, and its own gimmick. Scour the remnants of a lost civilization to activate an ancient planetary defense technology. Dive into a pyramid to defend Earth’s energy grid. Raze an alien encampment and give our hostile invaders no quarter. Blow an alien mothership right out of the sky. Guinea Pig Gunner is as much an epic adventure as it is an engaging and unique take on the run-and-gun genre. The full version will be available in Q3 2026.
