PQube and developer Mindfuel Games invite players to put their word skills to the test in Beyond Words, the genre-defining roguelike word-crafter, available today on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam® (now Verified on Steam® Deck). To celebrate, dive into the brand-new launch trailer that showcases the game’s rich word-crafting mechanics.
Created by industry legends, Steve Ellis and Dr David Doak (two of the minds behind GoldenEye 007 and TimeSplitters), Beyond Words blends wordplay with the thrill of roguelike escalation like never before. Players will be challenged with building powerful word combos, unlocking game-changing upgrades and adapting to unique, evolving boards. Bending the rules with modifiers, stickers, and enhancements will be necessary to ensure victory.
“This game started as a simple ‘what if?’ between friends,” said Steve Ellis and David Doak, Co-Owners of Mindfuel Games.
“We wanted a space to play, iterate, and find the fun – to practice the game-making craft in a small team without external expectations or pressure to make the kind of thing we are known for. We’ve always been big fans of classic word games and twisting the genre in a new direction has been a refreshing creative journey. We’re proud of what we’ve made and hope people enjoy playing Beyond Words as much as we enjoyed making it.“
Beyond Words uses familiar tile mechanics that make it easy to play for all experience levels, while its evolving systems and layers of tactical depth make it incredibly rewarding to master.
As players progress through boards with escalating goals and take on over 30 unique boss challenges that twist the rules in devious ways, they will be rewarded with modifiers and abilities that offer new ways to tackle future runs. When they’re ready, players can take on even more challenging boards with time attacks, seeded runs, and even brain-melting negative scoring modes.
