h2benchw gehört zur Tool-Sammlung der Fachzeitschrift c’t aus dem Heise Verlag. Das Testprogramm arbeitet dabei auf unterster Hardware-Ebene und vermeidet dadurch den Einfluss des Dateisystems. Neben den sequentiellen Transferraten und den Zugriffszeiten beim Lesen und Schreiben stehen auch verschiedene Anwendungsprofile zur Verfügung: Swappen, Installieren, Word, Photoshop, Kopieren und F-Prot (Virentest). Der Anwendungsindex errechnet sich aus den Einzelwerten der Profile und bietet einen Überblick über die Gesamtperformance des getesteten Laufwerks.
